Marvel’s Bounty Hunters comic is ending
By Meg Dowell
The long-running Star Wars comic Bounty Hunters is officially coming to an end — but every ending is, in its own way, a new beginning.
Launching its first issue in March 2020, the series — written by Ethan Sacks, illustrated by Paolo Villanelli, and published by Marvel Comics — has been a staple in Star Wars comics readers’ pull lists for over three years. At New York Comic-Con 2023, it was announced that issue 42 would be the last issue of the run.
Sacks, who was present at the convention when the announcement was made, felt a mix of emotions as he revealed the closing of one chapter alongside the opening of another. Fans, too, expressed both their dismay that the series is coming to a close and their excitement for what’s to come in the near future.
“I’m blessed and humbled by the love and support from #ValanceNation and other fans,” Sacks continued on Twitter. “I couldn’t do this without you and I will never take that for granted.”
Since an ending almost always accompanies a new beginning, the writer was also able to announce the next Star Wars comic project — Star Wars: Jango Fett, a comic miniseries set to debut in March 2024. So if you’re sad to see the bounty hunting come to an end, don’t worry. There’s plenty more of it on the horizon.
Bounty Hunters follows Beilert Valance, Boba Fett, and Bossk. It takes place between the events of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. Most recently, the series has been part of the crossover Marvel Comics event Dark Droids. The next issue of the series is set to release on November 22, with two more issues to follow that one for an epic conclusion this winter.
Bounty Hunters 42 releases in January 2024.
