While Star Wars books release far less frequently than comics, there’s something new to enjoy almost every month out of the year. This week, Star Wars Legends fans will be pleased to know that new Legends books will appear on store shelves today — sort of!

That’s right — it’s the return of the Essential Legends Collection, a series of Legends re-releases complete with brand-new covers and the same stories you know and love. While this collection of paperbacks is a great way to relive the magic of what used to be called the “Expanded Universe,” it also serves as a welcoming opportunity for Star Wars fans who never got into Legends to experience them for the first time as if they are brand-new.

This week’s wave of Essential Legends Collection books includes four releases, all available in paperback from wherever you typically get your Star Wars books. These newest releases include:

  • The Courtship of Princess Leia by Dave Wolverton
  • I, Jedi by Michael A. Stackpole
  • The Old Republic: Annihilation by Drew Karpyshyn
  • Republic Commando: True Colors by Karen Traviss

Two of these releases — The Courtship of Princess Leia and I, Jedi — are standalone Legends books that could be a fair starting point for anyone hoping to dive into Legends books for the first time (in a long time or ever). The other two, The Old Republic: Annihilation and Republic Commando: True Colors, are sequels part of larger separate series. And while they’re both excellent books, it is highly recommended that you read the previous books in each respective series before cracking these open.

More Essential Legends Collection books and audiobooks are on the horizon, so don’t forget to check back here for updates on those upcoming releases as well.
