If you are a Star Wars comic book fan who has been waiting for some new original stories from a galaxy far, far away, you won’t have much longer to wait! In a press release from Dark Horse Comics, they announced that they have partnered with Lucasfilm Publishing to bring us a brand new line of graphic novels with original stand-alone stories! These were first announced at New York Comic Con, but this latest news on the upcoming graphic novels provides greater detail.

The announcement states that in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the release of The Phantom Menace, which hit theaters on May 19, 1999, the series will begin in April. The new story about Qui-Gon Jinn is written by George Mann and drawn by Andrea Mutti and Gigi Baldassini. No stranger to Star Wars stories, George Mann has written several Star Wars stories, including the 2023 High Republic novel The Battle of Jedha.

According to Mann, the story about the iconic Jedi master will focus on “three pivotal moments in his life” and will mention his relationships with Count Dooku and Obi-Wan Kenobi. In the announcement, Mann also said how excited he is about getting a brack at the iconic prequel-era Jedi Knight.

"“I’m thrilled to be getting my hands on Qui-Gon at long last!… He’s such an icon of the Prequel era, and it’s a real joy to be able to add to his story.”"

The announcement states that future stories will be written by such authors as Cecil Castellucci, Justina Ireland, and Michael Moreci, among many others. They will give us all new stories about some other legendary Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Mace Windu, Kylo Ren, and Darth Vader, to name a few. Obi-Wan Kenobi was another graphic novel announced at New York Comic Con.

It will be interesting to see more stories about these characters outside of the world of the movies and the novels. Dark Horse is a well-known commodity in the Star Wars comic world, having published many classics in the Legends collection. It is good to see these guys back in the Star Wars game.

Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories Qui-Gon will be released on April 23, 2024. The release date for future titles has not yet been released.
