It’s time to stop asking Katee Sackhoff about a Bo and Din romance
Katee Sackhoff has cleared the air once again regarding her portrayal of Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian Season 3. Sackhoff told The Direct that she never played the character with any romantic undertones, and her interactions with Din Djarin were never based on any kind of romantic connection. The actress made it clear that there were never any discussions about Bo and Din possibly getting together, and most of the speculation resulted from harmless onset antics between her and Din Djarin’s body double, Brendan Wayne.
Sackhoff explains that she and Wayne were just “joking around at work”, and says that she believes the buzz around Bo and Din being together is the result of seeing a man and woman together on screen. Katee acknowledges that there’s probably just as much interest in The Armorer (Emily Swallow) and Bo-Katan’s relationship, and fans likely ship those two just as much.
"“No, I think that there’s probably just as much speculation in the shipping of The Armorer and Bo-Katan. I think that anytime you put a woman and a man on screen together, it’s bound to happen. I think that that’s just one of those things, that speculation that people enjoy. But no, nothing more than just joking around between myself and Brendan Wayne at work, so no.”"
The majority of this speculation came about during Season 3 of The Mandalorian. While the season streamed on Disney+, fans began to get their hopes up after interviews with Din Djarin’s body double, Brendan Wayne, and Katee, seemed to hint that there was a kissing scene filmed between Din and Bo. Later on, Sackhoff clarified that the whole thing was just the two having fun at work and that Din and Bo never kissed. Nothing romantic was written into the script and the two characters are just working together for the betterment of Mandalore.
While it’s normal for fans to speculate, and shipping two lead characters, especially if they’re the opposite sex, is the norm, it shouldn’t become more important than the story itself. Bo-Katan has been around since The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, and Katee Sackhoff put in a lot of hard work to bring her character to life in live-action. A female character is good for more than just being a love interest, especially one like Bo-Katan whose potential as the ruler of an entire planet seems far more intriguing than any potential romance.
Katee Sackhoff has answered this question many times already, and it’s becoming slightly repetitive. If an actor says that there’s no romance planned, it might be better to stop asking her about it. Not only was there no actual romance between Din and Bo in Season 3, but it seems unlikely that a romance is possible in future seasons of the show. Din Djarin’s main purpose is training Grogu and being a father, and this has taken him away from Mandalore.
Meanwhile, Bo-Katan has to continue to lead her people and rebuild her planet. Katee Sackhoff deserves a series of her own that focuses on the rebuilding of Mandalore from her point of view. The Mandalorian on the other hand, should continue to focus exclusively on Din Djarin as the main character as he navigates life as a father and a Mandalorian.
The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+.
