Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki wants to helm a Star Wars movie
Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki has expressed interest in directing an upcoming Star Wars film, and Star Wars fans could not be happier.
After all, it is already becoming clear that Godzilla Minus One will be one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2023. Needless to say, the immensely talented Yamazaki would certainly do a fantastic job if he was ever handed the reins to an upcoming Star Wars project.
In an interview with /Film, Yamazaki clarified that he would love to direct a Star Wars movie at some point, saying:
"“I watched Star Wars, and that’s how I ended up being a filmmaker. I’m really hoping I will get a call and they will bring me on Star Wars. I think a more Japanese or even just Eastern take on Star Wars would be really, really interesting, so I hope they call me up.”"
It definitely sounds like Yamazaki has some interesting ideas about how he would like to approach his potential Star Wars film. At the same time, he has also clearly already put a great deal of thought into what the project would entail if it becomes a reality. And since Godzilla Minus One is being hailed as a masterpiece, fans can only hope that Yamazaki will eventually be allowed to bring his unique vision to the Star Wars franchise.
In the meantime, the excellent Godzilla Minus One is now playing in wide release across the US, so there is no excuse not to catch Godzilla’s latest cinematic outing on the big screen.
Every now and then, a director will express interest in playing in the Star Wars sandbox — and that just goes to show how big the universe already is — and how much room there is for it to grow. While not every hopeful director actually gets to see their galaxy far, far away-themed dreams come true, the future is always uncertain — you never know what could happen next.
