If you've been around the Star Wars fandom for a while, you've probably heard of some of the most infamous projects in a galaxy far, far away that were never finished or released. From the Star Wars: Underworld TV show to the Sword of the Jedi book series, not everything fans have looked forward to has become available to enjoy.

Of all the canceled Star Wars projects floating around out there in the land of uncertain futures, there are a few that stand out as true tragedies. We're still holding out hope that Lucasfilm will revisit them someday.

1. Rangers of the New Republic

Star Wars doesn't have many on-screen projects that focus on the lesser-known operations within the New Republic era. Rangers of the New Republic would have offered a refreshing and unique perspective on the government's operations throughout the galaxy in the years leading up to The Force Awakens. Most sources are confident that it's no longer in the works, however.

There are a lot of potential reasons Lucasfilm and Disney+ scrapped this series. Some of its concepts have already been absorbed into shows like Ahsoka, and there's very little chance the roaming pilots of the New Republic government will ever get their chance to truly shine. But stranger things have happened in this franchise; never say never.

2. Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron film

All the way back in 2020, Patty Jenkins and Lucasfilm announced Rogue Squadron -- a Star Wars film meant to revolve around the lives of starpilots. Despite Jenkins' clear passion for the project and fans' excitement for it, as of 2025, the movie appears to have been officially shelved.

Jenkins was taking this project quite seriously, even making an effort to meet with one of the authors of the X-Wing book series during the movie's early development. She didn't just value the source material and Star Wars as a whole. She's proven she can make a good movie. Maybe we'll still get to see it one day.

3. The Acolyte

As of 2025, there are no official plans for Lucasfilm to continue making Star Wars: The Acolyte. The Disney+ show closed out its first and only current season with a breathtaking cliffhanger fans couldn't wait to see pay off in a second season. Just because it isn't happening now doesn't mean it never can.

Just look at Star Wars: The Clone Wars as an example. The original show ran for five seasons before a sixth season of episodes was released. Years later, in 2020, the show ran its seventh and final season to complete the original story despite all signs pointing to its permanent cancellation. When it comes to Star Wars TV, anything is possible.
