The character of Ahsoka Tano has been through quite a journey since she originally debuted in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie. She has gone from a largely loathed Togruta to one of the most beloved Jedi of all time. Once people meet her, they tend to want to know everything they can about her. Many start with the TV show that immediately follows the movie.
The Clone Wars isn't the only Star Wars story featuring her character, however. In fact, the more stories you consume about Ahsoka, the more impactful her role in the 2008 TV series becomes.
Tales of the Jedi
Even though Tales of the Jedi goes largely unappreciated in the Star Wars fandom at large, the six-episode series of shorts eloquently explores the complicated lives of Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku as Jedi -- and then former Jedi. Ahsoka's three episodes in particular paint a telling portrait of not only her journey through her training and relationship with the Force, but also how all that shifts post-Order 66.
One episode in particular features Anakin Skywalker and his clone troopers training Ahsoka to survive nonstop blasterfire from enemy targets. This connects directly back to The Clone Wars when she is forced to deflect fire in a similar manner during the Jedi Purge. You won't ever look at that moment the same again once you've seen how Ahsoka learned to accomplish that feat.
E.K. Johnston's Star Wars: Ahsoka novel
Even though the Ahsoka novel was released in 2016, long before the seventh and final season of The Clone Wars premiered in 2020, it still leaves readers itching to go back and watch some of the show's most critical episodes. Only through reading this book does it really become clear how traumatized Ahsoka was by Order 66 and what she went through to survive the Jedi Purge.
The novel takes place a year after Order 66. Johnston crafts a deep and powerful narrative about Ahsoka's difficult journey through overcoming her past and accepting her role in the galaxy even though the Jedi as she knew them no longer exist. Reading this book now, then immediately starting up the Siege of Mandalore arc of The Clone Wars, is a borderline spiritual experience.
Star Wars Rebels Season 2
Ahsoka Tano plays a smaller but still significant role in the animated Star Wars Rebels TV series. While she serves as more of a mentor to characters such as Ezra Bridger, she also fights her own battles throughout, particularly in the show's second season.
The sophomore season of Star Wars Rebels showcases how much Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader still haunts her many years after the end of the Clone Wars. The former master and apprentice also meet face-to-face for a confrontation that changes the course of Ahsoka's life forever. Going back to The Clone Wars TV show after this becomes a completely different, and highly worthwhile, endeavor.
