Praise for the second season of Andor continues to come in from all angles. It is coming from fans, critics, and even stars of the series themselves. Adria Arjona, who has worked with many other writers and directors in her career, recently commented on the strength of the writing of series.
The up-and-coming actress, who played Bix Caleen, recently spoke to Awards Radar about her experience working with series creator Tony Gilroy and his writing on the show.
She spoke about the importance of the attempted assault in the third episode, "Harvest". She said it was a tribute to survivors of assault, and it was an important way to frame the scene through the writing.
“I held my friends and family members who have gone through that and wish they would have responded how Bix responded in that moment,” says Arjona. “To speak those words out loud, there is great power in that, and I did not take it lightly.”
But the caliber of the writing seen on Andor and Gilroy's approach to the work seems to have made an impact on Arjona. It may also be one of the reasons why the series, in particular the second season, has gathered so much praise.
The second season was written with a lot of care, in my opinion, and attention to detail is a strength. That detail is evident in Arjona's character.
“With his writing, you don’t want to touch a single thing,” Arjona said in the interview. “His job is to really get to know you and start writing for you in the way that you speak.”
Both Arjona and Gilroy have been submitted for Emmy nominations for next year. They're linked with the power of Gilroy's words, and how the actress portrayed those words and actions on the screen may be why both receive recognition for their work.
Along with Arjona, many other actors have been submitted for their work on the series. We're eager to see if the cast picks up nominations, and those would speak to their performances and Gilroy's writing in a strong way. For now, fans can rewatch the second season and look for even more strength in the words on the page and on the screen.
