Star Wars fans have more stories to look forward to thanks to Disney’s latest publishing move. The entertainment giant recently announced a deal to expand its reach into Webtoons and digital comics, signaling that the galaxy far, far away will continue to grow across new platforms. While traditional comics have long been a cornerstone of Star Wars storytelling, this development shows that Disney is committed to exploring digital-first narratives, giving fans fresh ways to experience their favorite characters and new adventures.

The deal, per Variety, is part of Disney’s larger strategy to integrate its franchises into emerging formats. Webtoons—a platform that specializes in serialized digital comics optimized for scrolling on phones and tablets—has become a major hub for comic storytelling. With over 155 million global users each month on Webtoons alone, Webtoon Entertainment is also the giant behind Wattpad, Studio N, Studio LICO, Webtoon Unscrolled, Line Manga, and eBookJapan. By bringing Star Wars content to this space, Disney is creating opportunities for fans to enjoy stories in bite-sized, visually engaging formats that are more accessible worldwide than traditional print comics.

This move is particularly exciting for fans who have been craving new Star Wars narratives. While Disney regularly releases canon novels and comics through Lucasfilm Publishing, Webtoons provides a platform for shorter, more experimental stories that could explore side characters, untold adventures, or even alternative timelines in ways that traditional media cannot. Daniel Fink, senior VP, head of digital innovation at Disney Consumer Products, said that the Webtoon Entertainment deal is “one of the biggest we have ever done.”

While the details of the first Star Wars Webtoon releases have not been fully confirmed, it is likely that the content will include a mix of original stories and adaptations of existing Star Wars tales. For fans, this could mean seeing familiar characters in new situations or exploring corners of the galaxy that have never been fully explored in other formats. Webtoons also allow for interactive storytelling techniques, such as dynamic panels and scrolling effects, which could bring the action of the Star Wars universe to life in a fresh, immersive way.

Though Webtoons and comics are still separate from live-action projects, this deal reinforces Disney’s commitment to keeping Star Wars alive in multiple forms. Whether you’re a longtime fan who has followed the saga for decades or a newcomer discovering the galaxy through digital comics, the expansion into Webtoons offers another avenue to engage with the stories you love. Fans should keep an eye out for additional announcements in the coming months.
