The third film in the Star Wars prequel trilogy mostly featured familiar characters from a galaxy far, far away. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005), however, also introduced a brand-new character to the larger story: the part-droid, part-alien leader of the droid army, General Grievous.
The character is soon getting his very own graphic novel, putting the spotlight on him for the first time in years. Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories — Grievous will release in early 2026, written by Michael Moreci with art by Caio Filipe, colors by Dan Jackson, and lettering by ComiCraft. Artist Michael Cho will once again create the cover, as he's done with the other books in the series. Dark Horse Comics will publish this story as well.
This graphic novel will take place during the Clone Wars and will feature Grievous battling Jedi as he commands his droid armies. We know he'll survive the book, since it serves as a sort of prequel to his first (and final) appearance in Revenge of the Sith. But it won't be the first time Star Wars has told a compelling story about a character whose eventual fate is no secret to its audience.
The Qui-Gon Jinn installment of the Hyperspace Stories graphic novels was excellent, and there's no doubt the Mace Windu chapter will follow suit in quality. It's refreshing to get an announcement about one of these focused on a character who hasn't gotten a lot of attention in Star Wars canon overall. Grievous has popped up here and there and was always a delight to have around in whichever Clone Wars episodes he happened to show up in. Maybe we'll learn more about him, and his background -- which was elaborated on more in Legends, but is long due for an update.
Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories — Grievous is expected to release on January 13, 2026 wherever you get your comic books.
