A new Kickstarter campaign has been launched to finance a Star Wars-themed documentary called Halcyon Daze: The Final Voyages of the Galactic Starcruiser. And fans will certainly be looking forward to becoming involved with this exciting new documentary.
The project will focus on the rise and eventual fall of the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser interactive attraction at Disney World and the history behind it, so we can expect a very detailed analysis of the ambitious hotel experience.
The documentary will be directed by Carrie Coaplen, an academic and PhD graduate with many years of teaching experience. The campaign page mentions that Coaplen visited the Galactic Starcruiser attraction four times, so she will clearly have plenty of experience to draw from. The film will include plenty of interviews with the creators of Galactic Starcruiser, which means that fans will be provided with a huge amount of fascinating information about its development. There will also be interviews with fans about their experience of the interactive attraction, so we will be treated to a broad range of perspectives.
Multiple Emmy-nominee Ben Daughtrey will produce the documentary alongside researcher, gaming historian, and Illinois Tech professor Carly Kocurek, with the latter also running the Kickstarter campaign. At the same time, the campaign page includes a video featuring Coaplen discussing the project, and you can tell that she is clearly very enthusiastic about Halcyon Daze.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser was a two-day interactive experience at Walt Disney World Resort that lasted from 2022 to 2023, in which attendees stayed in an immersive hotel disguised as a starship known as the Halcyon. The purpose of the experience was to make guests feel as though they were on a starship flying through space in the Star Wars galaxy, which was certainly an ambitious goal. The attraction also featured immersive theater elements to further make guests feel like they really were in the Star Wars galaxy.
Despite costing hundreds of millions to develop, Galactic Starcruiser sadly came to an end after less than two years, with the extravagant ticket prices no doubt playing a role in its demise. Fans were sad to see it go, but it remains an integral part of Star Wars history. Although it was clearly not as popular as the more successful Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge attraction, fans of the Star Wars franchise will still always remember everything that Galactic Starcruiser had to offer.
The team behind the feature-length Halcyon Daze are looking to raise $50,000, and they have currently earned just over half of that goal. So, they will also almost certainly have enough funds to complete the documentary by the time the campaign ends next month. The campaign is also offering plenty of worthwhile rewards, including the opportunity to have our name featured in the end credits.
If you would like to donate for yourself to Halcyon Daze: The Final Voyages of the Galactic Starcruiser, you can head over to Kickstarter now to become a part of what will no doubt become a very memorable project.
