More than three years after Obi-Wan Kenobi debuted on Disney+, a new rumor suggests the Jedi Master’s journey may not be over just yet.
According to a recent report from industry insider Daniel Richtman, Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor could return as Obi-Wan in a potential second season. No additional details were provided with no production timeline, casting confirmations, and no official green light from Lucasfilm has been announced.
Originally developed as a limited series, Obi-Wan Kenobi was marketed as "The Complete Series" upon its physical release. The show premiered in May 2022 to strong viewership and fan engagement.
Set ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, the show followed Obi-Wan living in exile on Tatooine as he quietly watched over a young Luke Skywalker. When young Princess Leia is kidnapped, Obi-Wan is forced out of hiding, triggering a confrontation with his former apprentice, Darth Vader, in one of the series' most talked-about moments.
The show starred McGregor alongside Vivien Lyra Blair, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Indira Varma, Moses Ingram, and Kumail Nanjiani, and its success helped reignite interest in character-driven, legacy-era Star Wars storytelling. While critical reception was mixed, fan enthusiasm remained high, and Obi-Wan Kenobi remains one of the most-watched Star Wars series on Disney+.
As of June 2025, Lucasfilm has not confirmed any plans to continue the series, and Richtman’s report should be viewed as speculative. The studio has significantly reshaped its development slate over the past few years, shelving several announced film and television projects, while focusing on wrapping up long-running stories like Andor and The Mandalorian.
A second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, even in early development, would mark a notable shift for Lucasfilm, especially if it continues to bridge the narrative gap between the prequel and original trilogies.
Should McGregor return as Obi-Wan, questions remain about the story’s direction. Season 1 gave the character a sense of closure, but there may still be more to explore in the years leading up to A New Hope. For now, the possibility of Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 remains a hopeful rumor for fans eager to see the Jedi Master’s journey continue.
All episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 1 are available to stream now on Disney+.
