Oscar Isaac has left the door wide open for a return to the Star Wars galaxy, suggesting that he would reprise his role as Poe Dameron if the story and timing felt right. The actor, who portrayed the Resistance’s rakish star pilot in the sequel trilogy, shared his thoughts in a recent interview with Variety.
“Yeah, I’d be [sic] a Star Wars again if there was something good to do with that,” he said.
The Moon Knight star continued, saying that he doesn’t have a “grand strategy” behind which films he chooses. “It’s just about ‘Is there something in a film that I love enough that when that alarm goes off in the morning, I’m ready and wanting to go to work?’” he shared. “‘Is there enough in it to pull me across the finish line?’”
Isaac’s comments come amid an ongoing conversation in the Star Wars fan community about the direction of the franchise in a post-sequels world. With Lucasfilm exploring new stories across film, Disney+, and novels, the potential for legacy characters to return has always been a topic of speculation. While Isaac did not confirm any concrete projects, his openness provides hope for fans who grew attached to Poe’s daring piloting and loyalty to the Resistance.
Poe Dameron’s story in the sequel trilogy saw him grow from a confident but impulsive pilot in The Force Awakens to a key Resistance leader by the events of The Rise of Skywalker. His relationships with characters like Finn and Rey, along with his camaraderie with BB-8, made him a standout figure for audiences.
As far as Lucasfilm’s upcoming slate, there are several ways Dameron could find himself back behind the wheel of an X-wing. Simon Kinberg has said he wants his upcoming trilogy to have a gritty feel like Andor, which would certainly lend itself to the appearance of the scrappy pilot. However, Daisy Ridley’s apparently not canceled Rey project – rumored to introduce a whole new era within the Star Wars timeline – is the most likely place Isaac could pop up.
As he told Variety, the story will have to feel right if he is to return. Poe fans far and wide will likely take comfort in knowing that the actor remains enthusiastic about the role, leaving the door open for potential new adventures in a galaxy far, far away.
Look for Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, in theatres this October.
