Ahsoka Season 2 to begin filming in 2025 after The Mandalorian and Grogu wraps
Star Wars fans got an update on the status of Ahsoka Season 2 from Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who plays Sabine Wren, at Dragon Con this weekend.
Bordizzo reportedly told fans in attendance that Ahsoka will begin filming in the Summer of 2025 after filming has wrapped on The Mandalorian and Grogu. Although a video or exact quote of what Bordizzo said about Season 2 hasn't been shared online, this seems like genuine news based on what various outlets have reported.
Despite the mixed reception to Ahsoka Season 1, almost everyone is excited about the show's second season, as season 1 has promised big and exciting things ahead for Ahsoka and her Rebel friends, including Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, and Chopper. Grand Admiral Thrawn is back, but so is Ezra, however, the season ends with Ahsoka and Sabine getting stuck on Peridea. Peridea is a barren wasteland in another galaxy where Thrawn and Ezra ended up following the events of Star Wars Rebels, Season 4.
At the moment, Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni is busy working alongside Jon Favreau on The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first Star Wars movie to release since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. Filoni is also co-writing it with Favreau, and the duo confirmed at D23 2024 that filming had already started on the highly anticipated project. The Mandalorian and Grogu will likely be Lucasfilm's main priority, and it's probably impossible for Ahsoka to go into development until the movie wraps up.
Although very little is known about Ahsoka Season 2, rumors suggest that Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker after making a return through the World Between Worlds in Episode 5, "Shadow Warrior". Anakin is shown again as a Force ghost in the final scene of the season as he proudly watches over his former Padawan. Plot-wise, there's a lot of potential as Ahsoka and Sabine find themselves stranded on Peridea, with Shin Hati, Baylan Skol, and statues of the Mortis Gods to keep them company. Will Ahsoka and Sabine make it back together, or will they run into obstacles that push them apart?
This, and many other questions will be answered in Ahsoka Season 2 which will probably release sometime in 2026 at the earliest.
