14. Episode 4 “Faster” - 6.6

Despite its promise to take us on a high-octane adventure, "Faster" kinda feels like it's revving its engines more than actually racing.

The episode's premise had us all buckled up and ready for the ride of our lives, expecting twists, turns, and adrenaline-pumping action. But instead, it's more like being stuck behind a tractor on a country road. You can feel the potential, the power under the hood waiting to be unleashed, but somehow, it just doesn't hit the gas hard enough. Sure, there's movement, and yes, there are moments when you feel the wind in your hair, but you're left yearning for that exhilarating speed that was advertised but never quite delivered.

Now, don't get me wrong. "Faster" isn't a total write-off. It's got its moments, like a few scenic routes that are easy on the eyes and some engine rumbles that promise excitement. But when it comes down to the nitty-gritty, the episode feels like it's playing it too safe, coasting on the charm of our beloved characters without really putting them through their paces. It's like going to a theme park and finding out the most thrilling ride is under maintenance. You still enjoy the cotton candy and the smaller rides, but you can't shake off the feeling of missing out on the main attraction.

13. Episode 13 “Pabu” - 6.7

"Pabu," nestles snugly in the comfortable middle of the pack with a respectable but not earth-shattering 6.7 on the ol' IMDb scale. Why? Glad you asked.

Well, imagine you're all geared up for another adrenaline-pumping, blaster-firing escapade with the Bad Batch, your favorite genetically modified misfits. Instead, what you get is the intergalactic equivalent of a lazy Sunday afternoon. "Pabu" decides to hit the pause button on the high stakes and instead offers us a peek into the quieter moments that bind our squad together. It's heartwarming, sure, and there's beauty in the calm, but it's a bit like being handed a decaf coffee when you were expecting a double espresso shot to the veins. You appreciate the gesture, but it's not quite hitting the spot.

This episode is akin to finding a serene little island in the middle of a raging sea. It's lovely, it's peaceful, but it's not why you boarded the ship. Fans tune in to The Bad Batch for the thrill of the chase, the complexity of moral dilemmas, and the dynamism of characters who've become as familiar as friends. "Pabu" gives us a breather, which, while necessary, might not be what gets the heart racing. It's the sorbet in a feast of flavors - refreshing, yes, but not the dish you'll be raving about to your friends. The episode's placement reflects a collective nod of appreciation for showing us a different side of the team, for the quiet before the storm, but it's a gentle reminder that in the galaxy of entertainment, it's the battles, both internal and external, that often leave the most lasting impressions.
