Daisy Ridley has been busy since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. From many movies, podcast series, and audiobooks, the young star has been involved in many impressive projects. It was announced a year ago that the 32-year-old actress will return to the Star Wars universe in an upcoming film.

At Star Wars Celebration 2023, Ridley delighted Star Wars faithful when it was announced she would return to her breakthrough role of Rey Skywalker from the sequel trilogy. The upcoming film will be set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and is in the earliest stages of production.

Ridley recently spoke to Premiere magazine about the upcoming role and the importance of returning as Rey. "I felt like the story had wrapped up really nicely. So, Rey’s return had to be worthwhile, and I think it is," said Ridley.

The actress also commented that she was not contractually obligated to return to the franchise and that it was her decision to return.

The film is set to take place 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and will follow Rey as she attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Rey's character was well-received by most of the fandom in the sequel trilogy.

In the same piece from Premiere, Ridley commented on focusing on the positive aspects of returning and the response from the fans. "I know that some people expressed themselves negatively, but I don't pay attention to it. Because it doesn't really concern me: I can't change the way some men see women. Unfortunately, that's how society works. And overall, I was very well received. I made the choice to focus on the positive," said Ridley.

Ridley's excitement and positive thinking will provide a great atmosphere when the film's shooting gets underway. Both she and the character have been a positive influence on young women and fans of all shapes and sizes, and the next film will only add to that influence.
