Heads up, comic fans! We have some breaking news.

It was announced last month that the current Star Wars and Darth Vader comics were coming to an end in September, bringing to a close the last five years of storytelling. The announcement came with a promise that a new era of storytelling would begin. We have our first look at what's next in Star Wars comics.

Shared via Star Wars Splash Pages' Twitter account, an image of the burnt and broken helmet of Darth Vader has been released. With it, the words "The final battle of the galactic civil war beings," line the page. It looks like we're moving into the era post-Return of the Jedi. This would make sense. The last runs of Star Wars and Darth Vader took place between Episodes V and VI.

In their tweet, Star Wars Splash Pages speculates that more details will come during San Diego Comic-Con, in the October solicitations, or both. With SDCC next week, which has a couple of publishing panels (see the full list of Star Wars panels here), it would make sense to tease an announcement leading up to the panels.

We've seen parts of the post-Return of the Jedi time period before in books and comics. Some examples has been Shattered Empire, Alphabet Squadron, and Bloodlines. However, following Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa, Lando Calrissian, and Chewbacca issue by issue hasn't been covered that much in the Disney era. This is an excited idea. Also, as a die hard Star Wars Resistance fan, I really hope we get to see rebel era Jarek Yeager, Imanuel and Venisa Doza, and Griff Halloran pop up at some point since we know that Yeager was at the Battle of Jakku. As the final battle of the Galactic Civil War and what's teased in the preview image, my hopes are high we might at least get a cameo.
