The Conqueror Challenges are well-known for letting participants virtually experience famous locations and paths. Browse through their website and you can sign up to walk the Appalachian Trail or cross the English Channel and earn a medal for your effort at the end of your virtual journey. More recently, they have allowed participants to journey to Mordor in The Lord of the Rings or complete adventures with Scooby-Doo and his gang.
A highly-anticipated series of virtual Star Wars challenges launched on May the 4th. You can choose to do one challenge or all six for a discount bundle but also have the option to buy the challenges individually.
Sign up for Luke Skywalker's path and you will cover three landmarks in the war against the Empire. After 87 miles, you'll have earned a medal depicting an X-wing approach on the Death Star, while the reverse side of the medal lets you slide a torpedo to meet a small thermal exhaust port right below the main port.
Hot on the heels of Luke Skywalker's iconic victory at Yavin, 212 miles takes you through the Battle of Hoth. The resulting medal shows an Imperial walker and a snow speeder in combat as Luke and his fellow pilots bought time for the Alliance to evacuate the base. Flip it over on its ribbon of fight suit orange, and you'll find the proud insignia of the Rebel Alliance.
Finally, travel 60 miles to Jabba's palace and slide a panel of the medal up to reveal the Rancor or flip it over to see Han Solo still in carbonite. It's a great choice for the installment in which "everyone gets delusions of grandeur," and Luke comes into his own as a Jedi Knight.
Anakin Skywalker's path, on the other hand, takes a darker turn. A journey of 140 miles earns you a medal for The Podrace, featuring a spinning element of the pod's engines on one side and the racers in the final lap before Anakin's victory. From there, the Jedi Order medal that covers 117 miles in the Battle of Geonosis has Yoda framed above a file of clone troopers and three more lightsabers on the reverse. Finally, journey 75 miles on Mustafar for the Dark Side medal, with the embattled Obi-Wan and Anakin on one side and Darth Vader on the other.
In addition to these visually appealing medals, the virtual challenge sends virtual postcards along the way and informative facts about the players involved. For every 20% of the journey completed, they plant a tree or donate to a recycling effort. Best of all, you can travel alone or gather a team to help you get through the hero's journey.
