As Star Wars: The Acolyte comes to a close, one fan wished to celebrate the series uniquely by raising money for an excellent cause.

Candace Kaw, producer of The Geeky Waffle and the Star Wars podcasts Space Waffles and What's Glup, kicked off the Acolytes for Equality fundraiser to raise money for Equality Now. This charity is a favorite of The Acolyte star Amandla Stenberg, who was a recipient of Equality Now's 30 for 30.

Acolytes for Equality is running through the end of July. The original goal was $500. Thanks to the gracious donations of awesome Star Wars fans, that goal passed within hours and has been currently bumped to $1000. It would be awesome to surpass that and bump it up once again!

Equality Now's mission statement states that it's "a feminist organization using the law to protect and promote the human rights of all women and girls. We create, reform, challenge, and apply the law to establish enduring equality for women and girls everywhere. Since 1992, our international network of lawyers, activists, and supporters has held governments responsible for ending legal inequality, sexual exploitation, sexual violence, and harmful practices."

"We believe that legal equality is the first step towards gender equality. That’s why we use the power of the law to dismantle deep-rooted discrimination and inequality and build a just world for women and girls. "

How to help Acolytes for Equality

There are multiple ways to help out Acolytes for Equality. One is, of course, to donate! Any amount helps, even if it's just $1. However, one of the best ways to support the fundraiser is to share it. Telling people about it is free, and this spreads the word to people who can donate! If you're a streamer or a podcaster, talking about it on your show and adding it to the show notes is a wonderful way to participate.

The Geeky Waffles is also hosting a charity livestream on their YouTube channel on the evening of July 20. This event will host several Star Wars podcasters throughout the show, including Rebel Cels, Lipstick and Lightsabers, Friends of the Force, Yearn with Me, and Yap Sesh. Follow their social media accounts for any updates and changes for the livestream.

If you want to donate to Acolytes for Equality, visit their GoFundMe page until the end of July. Let's come together for an excellent cause!
