The Acolyte: Does Master Sol know that Mae is pretending to be Osha?
The Acolyte Episode 5 ended with an interesting and anxiety-inducing cliffhanger. Mae switched places with an unconscious Osha and left Khofar with Master Sol.
While watching this scene, I was shocked that Sol couldn't tell the sisters apart, especially given how attached he is to Osha. However, now that it's been a few hours since I watched this episode, I think Master Sol was able to tell them apart. He knows Mae has disguised herself as Osha and is pretending to be her. To think otherwise would be to doubt Sol's intelligence, which seems unlikely given his consistent display of perceptiveness and wisdom, which surpasses that of other Jedi in the series.
With that said, the story gets complicated from here. Sol plans to return to Coruscant with Osha, who is Mae, and Bazil, who is aware of Mae's secret and will either divulge the truth to Sol or die trying. If they reach Coruscant safely, it will be compelling to see how Mae reacts to her new surroundings, unless her initial instinct is to attack Master Sol, which could change everything. Mae appears to be the most conflicted character in Star Wars, as she repeatedly flip-flops on her decisions. In the previous episode, she intends to surrender and reunite with her sister. In this episode, she declares herself weak and abandons her sister to face a Sith alone.
It will be in everyone's best interests if Master Sol tells both sisters what happened to Brendok 16 years ago. He has failed to tell Osha many times. He might regret that he waited so long, especially if Mae has succeeded in fooling him into believing that she's Osha. We know that he loves Osha and regrets leaving Mae behind, but little does he know, this time, he might have unknowingly left Osha behind with a Sith.
Whatever happens, it seems almost everything hinges on Master Sol's truth. Until that's revealed, neither sister knows what happened on Brendok 16 years ago. This truth could save them both, or it could destroy them. It all depends now on whether Sol tells Mae everything, thinking that it's Osha, or if he realizes it's Mae and keeps the secret a little longer. Regardless, if Master Sol doesn't realize that the real Osha was left behind, and Bazil doesn't inform him in time, then we'll have to say goodbye to Lee Jung-Jae as Master Sol, which would be beyond upsetting as he's become a fan favorite very quickly.
