Ahead of the premiere of Star Wars: The Acolyte, it has been announced that one of the main characters is getting his own comic! The Wookiee Jedi Master Kelnacca will be the focus of the one shot comic Star Wars: The Acolyte - Kelnacca #1 out on September 4.

According to the exclusive announcement from io9, this issue is written by High Republic author Cavan Scott with illustrator Marika Cresta, who has collaborated with Scott on the main line of High Republic comics. Scott shared his excitement about this reveal and explained how it will connect earlier parts of the High Republic era to The Acolyte. He shared:

"It’s been so exciting to draw a line from The Acolyte back to The High Republic era we’ve been building in comics, books, audio and animation. Kelnacca is the perfect character to bridge the gap between the time of Leslye Headland’s spectacular series to the age of Starlight Beacon, the threat of Marchion Ro, and the marauding Nihil. In this comic, we will learn more about one of the most intriguing aspects of Kelnacca’s design: the meaning behind those mysterious tattoos. Along the way we’ll see the struggle of a Padawan and a master who is stoic, wise, and, ultimately, a true practitioner of Light and Life."

Kelnacca is played by Joonas Suotamo, who officially took over the role of Chewbacca after the passing of Peter Mayhew. While Kelnacca isn't the first on screen Wookiee Jedi, he is the first in live action which will be a fantastic addition to the franchise. Suotamo has already flexed his acting skills as Chewbacca, but it will be wonderful to see him craft a character of his own and define what makes this particular Jedi tick.

Star Wars: The Acolyte premieres June 4 on Disney+. Star Wars: The Acolyte - Kelnacca #1 will arrive at a comic store near you on September 4.
