The Acolyte: A sneak peek at a new Jedi costume hints at the finale
Star Wars decided to drop a big hint to send us into the weekend, and this could be a glimpse of what might happen in the final episode of Star Wars: The Acolyte.
In an interview with costume designer Jennifer Bryan, StarWars.com released a first look at an unseen costume for Vernestra Rwoh. The interview states these are specifically high senate robes. Bryan explains, “Unconsciously, she has a lot of weight on her shoulders. She has a lot to carry. She knows things. She knows that there's a lot of — the word I would use is a lot of duplicity — in what the Jedi did in the name of protecting the Force. She's basically trying to manage and do damage control with the Senate.”
This is a very meaty quote. We've seen Vernestra talk with a senator already. It was a more casual setting, one-on-one, where she was basically doing a Zoom meeting with the guy. However, these far nicer robes indicate a much more formal meeting, perhaps in front of the entire Senate or even the Chancellor.
Bryan also specifically notes that Vernestra is doing "damage control." This could mean several different things. Perhaps the event on Brendok will come out in the open. Maybe Qimir has another card up his sleeve that catches the Republic's attention. As the lone survivor of two massacres, Sol could be facing a trial of some kind.
This is an important time period. Already, the Senate wants to have more oversight over the Jedi Order. We know they get their wish in the future, as we see in the prequel trilogy and The Clone Wars. It's a big reason for their downfall, as Palpatine is able to manipulate them from afar. Whatever meeting Vernestra looks to be having in episode 8 could be the catalyst that eventually gets us to Order 66 and the destruction of the Jedi Order.
