In 2013, Lucasfilm announced plans for a Boba Fett movie, but those plans took a backseat when The Mandalorian was announced in 2018 as Star Wars' first live-action television series. Since then, the show has taken fans by storm and paved the way for the debut of animated characters in live-action, and the return of beloved original trilogy characters to television, including Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett.

Boba Fett has always been a mysterious figure in the eyes of Star Wars fans and it's what made him so popular. As one of the bounty hunters who Darth Vader hired, Fett proved his mettle but was killed off rather quickly. It bothered fans, although George Lucas didn't think much of it at first. As Boba's legend grew among fans, George Lucas began to regret his decision to kill him. However, no one was able to bring Boba back, except in the projects pre-dating his death. For a long time, fans made peace with the fact that he died and wasn't coming back.

That's until The Mandalorian changed everything by showing Boba Fett very much alive at the end of Chapter 5, "The Gunslinger." In season 2, Fett made a return with his refurbished armor, and fans were thrilled. His series was announced at the end of The Mandalorian season 2 and premiered in 2022 on Disney+. The show received mixed reviews, with many fans complaining that Boba Fett's character changed too much from the person he was in the Original Trilogy. However, Star Wars had no choice but to give Boba Fett more of a personality.

With one mysterious, fearsome bounty hunter named Din Djarin already ruling the roost, there was no need to bring Boba back as the same mysterious, faceless character he was in the Original Trilogy. He's a different person now, who has changed after a harrowing experience in life. However, Din Djarin is still that guy who gives Batsman-like vibes, and he's getting what Boba Fett was promised; his standalone movie. Din Djarin will make it to the big screens in a few years, along with Grogu and if the movie is a success, then the sky is the limit for them.

Boba Fett walked so Din Djarin could run, and if all goes well, Din might be in more than one movie and perhaps, the bounty hunter who started it all, Boba Fett, will join him on the big screen too.
