While we roll through the hot days of summer (I know I said this last week, but please make sure you're drinking water. It's hot out there), we continue with Star Wars (2020) as it marches towards its final issue in September. After the last few arcs focusing on Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian, it's time for Leia Organa to take front and center.

Let's dive into her story This Week in Star Wars Comics.

Star Wars #48

Kicking off a 2-issue mini-story arc, Star Wars #48 focuses back on Leia. This run is set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and trying to find Han Solo has been a big drive for her. Still, the loss of Alderaan weighs heavily on the princess, who has turned Rebellion General. With whispers of another possible Death Star out there, the fear of another planet suffering the fate of her homeworld while possibly losing the love of her life, too.

Writer Charles Soule talked about this arc on his Threads account, sharing a little bit of insight on writing Leia. He said, "Star Wars 48-49 are Leia-focused and (I think) will be really good. Leia was just a kid through the [original trilogy]. 19 in A New Hope, 22 in The Empire Strikes Back. It was a lot." This story sounds exciting, as I've wanted to see more of Leia grappling with the loss of her home, her parents, her friends, and everything she's ever known in a single instant. While leading a group to save the galaxy from an evil empire, the mental load is so much for someone so young to shoulder. These two issues sound right up my alley.

Along with Soule, Star Wars #48 is illustrated by Jethro Morales with the cover art Steven Segovia.
