This week in Star Wars comics: Mace Windu holds the fort
After May got off to a banger of a start with multiple releases of single issues, a special for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, trade paperback, and two manga, the last few weeks of Star Wars comics have been relatively quiet. That's not to say that they're not good books. It's an excellent time to be a Star Wars comic reader, even if, like this week, only one title is out.
Let's dive into this week in Star wars comics!
Mace Windu #4
The fourth and final issue of the latest Mace Windu miniseries challenges the titular character more than he ever thought. While protecting the smuggler Azita Cruuz, who happens to know a deep secret that could threaten the Republic, the Jedi Knight comes face to face with the mysterious leader of a cult, The Shroud. Always a stickler for the rules, Mace has no training for something like this and must rely on the Force to win... or reach a breaking point.
Mace Windu #4 is written by Marc Bernardin and illustrated by Georges Jeanty with Mateus Manhanini as the cover artist. The inker is Dexter Vines, the colorist is Andrew Dalhouse, and the letterer is Joe Caramagna. Shout out to all the inkers, colorists, and letterers out there. Letterers especially never get enough love for their hard work.
Throughout the month of May, there are two sets of variant covers running for all Star Wars comics. The first is no surprise with The Phantom Menace variant covers. It is the film's 25th birthday on Sunday. For Mace Windu #4, Gungan leader Boss Nass is featured, and Chris Sprouse is doing the artwork for it.
The other variant covers in May are the Master & Apprentice covers. For this issue, Kylo Ren and Supreme Leader Snoke are the duo, with the artwork by Phil Noto.
That's it for Star Wars comics! Check in next week for more here at Dork Side of the Force.
