Why Andor Season 2 Delay Means A Big Year For Star Wars Television in 2025

Andor Season 2 was quite far into filming before the strike. Most fans hoped this would put it on schedule for a 2024 release. So, why has it been delayed to 2025?

It's been one year since the finale of Andor, and most fans expected to have the show back at some point next year. According to most reports, Andor had just two weeks left of filming, but the latest news suggests that Andor Season 2 won't hit Disney+ until 2025.

Andor Season 1 received almost universal approval from critics and slowly grew on fans as the season progressed. The series stars Diego Luna and is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Season 2 of the series will end where Rogue One started and chronicle the journey of Captain Cassian Andor of the Rebel Alliance.

While some may think that Season 2 has been delayed to 2025 as a result of the SAG-AFTRA strike, that's probably not the case. Recently, Disney officially confirmed which Star Wars shows will be released in the new year, and Andor isn't on the list that includes The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, Tales of the Jedi Season 2, and The Bad Batch Season 3. However, Disney's overall strategy has shifted under Bob Iger, who said he wants to concentrate on theatrical releases, meaning a reduction of Marvel and Star Wars shows released on Disney+.

With four shows being announced for 2024, there's nothing ready for release in 2025. The Mandalorian Season 4 hasn't gone into production yet even though Jon Favreau said that he's written it. Ahsoka Season 2 hasn't been greenlit, which leaves no live-action series, apart from The Mandalorian Season 4, in line for a 2025 release. That's probably why Disney and Lucasfilm have decided to delay the release of Andor Season 2.

If 2025 ends up with a Star Wars lineup that includes their biggest hit, The Mandalorian, as well as Andor Season 2, it will be a year to look forward to fans. Now, most fans are hoping that Ahsoka Season 2 will get the green signal as soon as possible. Others are holding onto hope for the second seasons of The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi. With so few shows in the works, Disney should approve more seasons of series that had just one season. Maybe a Darth Vader series and a season of the scrapped Mandoverse show, Rangers of the New Republic starring Carson Teva, isn't such a bad idea after all.
