While not much is known about the upcoming Star Wars movie that Shawn Levy is slated to direct, we now know who will be penning the flick.
As reported by Deadline, Levy's longtime collaborator, Jonathan Tropper, has now joined the project. This isn't a surprise, really, as Levy and Tropper have been longtime collaborators. As Deadline's Anthony D'Alessandro explains in his piece:
"Tropper has a long history with Levy, having written his Netflix movie, 'The Adam Project,' which starred 'Deadpool‘s' Ryan Reynolds. He also wrote the Levy directed Warner Bros 2014 dramedy 'This Is Where I Leave You' and the 2017 Netflix dramedy 'Kodachrome,' which Levy produced under his 21 Laps banner. "Anthony D'Alessandro
Tropper is also the creator and showrunner for the series See on AppleTV+ and Cinemax's Banshee and Warrior. Deadline notes that Lucasfilm has not officially confirmed this announcement. As always, these kinds of announcements are subject to change.
Shawn Levy shared last year how his upcoming Star Wars project came to be when he had a meeting with Kathleen Kennedy. He explained:
"When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a 'Star Wars' movie, her central mandate to me was, 'I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with a ‘Star Wars’ story.'"Shawn Levy
Lately, Levy has been busy with the upcoming release of his Marvel movie Deadpool & Wolverine, which is out on July 26. Once this project is complete, we'll have to wait and see if he shifts his focus to his upcoming Star Wars film. With the addition of a writer, it seems that Levy and Tropper could be gearing up to begin.
It's always exciting to see a new Star Wars film on the way. From the looks of it, we're in for a new take on a galaxy far, far away.
