Star Wars fans who have been clamoring for a new Star Wars Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game won't have to wait long. Developers Respawn and Bit Reactor will be showing off their latest game at Star Wars Celebration in Japan on April 19, so make sure to mark your calendars now. Looking back at the companies, here's what you might expect from the upcoming title.
Who are Bit Reactor and Respawn and their history in Star Wars?
While details of the game will most likely remain sparse before April 19, we do know that this will be Bit Reactor's first official game since opening as a studio back in early 2022. Even though the studio itself has never developed a game before, it's comprised of gaming industry veterans who have worked on both RTS and non-RTS games such as XCOM, Gears of War, and Civilization, among others.
If the game didn't sound like it was in good hands already, Respawn is also helping Bit Reactor with the development of the game, which is pretty awesome. For those who need a quick refresher, Respawn are the developers behind the successful Jedi: Fallen Order video game and its sequel, Jedi Survivor. While the current Star Wars game Respawn is working on isn't directly connected to Fallen Order, fans of Cal Kestis can breathe a sigh of relief because EA announced back in 2024 that Respawn is working on a third game in the Jedi: Fallen Order series.
While Bit Reactor's and Respawn's Star Wars turn-based strategy game hasn't been given a release date, it's more than a good possibility we'll see one when the game is shown off at Star Wars Celebration on April 19. The game has been in development since 2022, and it's usually a 3-5 year development cycle is typical for most video games these days.
Luckily, we don't have to wait long for April to get here, but I'm sure both Star Wars and RTS fans alike are on the edge of their seats waiting for the reveal.
