It's been over 10 years since the premiere of the Star Wars Rebels animated series, which general audiences first saw on October 3, 2014. To celebrate a decade of nonstop love for the show, three of its voice actors have launched a rewatch podcast, Pod of Rebellion, from iHeart Radio. The podcast's first episode premiered earlier this week.
Featuring Vanessa Marshall (Hera Syndulla), Tiya Sircar (Sabine Wren), Taylor Gray (Ezra Bridger), and moderated by actor Jon Lee Brody, the podcast recaps and deep dives into one episode at a time each week. The former castmates discuss behind-the-scenes stories, favorite moments, and more while answering Brody's guiding questions along the way.
The first episode, covering the first installment of "Spark of Rebellion," included a few stories about the show's cast first meeting one another and the very early days of the project. This will be Gray's first time seeing most of the completed episodes.
Rebels fans old and new will love the chance to dive back into the show and relive the magic along with some of the Ghost Crew (and Brody). It's clear that this series still means a lot to the trio, and they still share a close bond even all these years later.
Don't go into the first episode of the podcast expecting this to be like most rewatch shows hosted by former castmates that you might have listened to before. They make it clear upfront that this show is meant to feel like a Rebels panel one might attend at a convention. Because there is a moderator as there would be at such a panel, the hosts don't get much of an opportunity to go on tangents or tell lengthy stories. So it's much less like a reunion or conversation between friends and more like a tightly produced hour-long discussion.
But that doesn't mean the show doesn't have the potential to hit its stride and loosen up a little as it goes on. The fact-checking at the end is worth a full listen in itself, and at the end of the day, any chance to engage with Rebels and its crew again is one worth coming back to week after week.
