Star Wars author Justina Ireland, who has published over 20 books, comics, and other stories set in a galaxy far far away, will soon publish her final works in the franchise.
Ireland published her first Star Wars junior novel, Lando's Luck, in 2018. She will publish two final novels in May 2025, plus one more graphic novel to release at a to-be-determined date.
"Two Star Wars books out on May 6th, 2025: Wayseeker and A Valiant Vow," she wrote on Bluesky. "They are also my last Star Wars books (not counting a Mace Windu graphic novel)."
Ireland is one of the original authors or "architects" of the widely successful High Republic publishing initiative and will have published seven works as part of the series (not including short stories) in a little over four years. She also authored a handful of comic stories during this time period.
While many readers are sad to see her go -- myself included -- there is absolutely no shame in deciding to step away from something and move on. Writing books, in general, is no small feat. Being a Star Wars author likely comes with its fair share of unique and tiresome challenges. Especially for a marginalized author who often writes characters a certain vocal population of fans tends to oppose (loudly).
This author has written plenty of amazing stories outside of Star Wars, and I hope she is soon able to focus her time and energy on telling new stories that resonate with readers who will give her work the attention and praise it deserves.
Ireland's final novel, Wayseeker, will feature an older Vernestra Rwoh -- a character she originated in her first High Republic book -- as part of a collection of stories tied to The Acolyte. She will also publish a graphic novel about Mace Windu as her final send-off.
