It's been over five and a half years since The Rise of Skywalker was released in theaters at the end of 2019, and since then, we haven't seen any canon materials dealing with post-Episode IX stuff. Star Wars fans who have been wanting to see what the galaxy is like past Episode IX (myself included) are in for a treat as a new Star Wars novel has been announced, which takes place after The Rise of Skywalker.

The novel, which is titled Star Wars: The Last Order will be released on October 21 this year and will follow the former First Order stormtroopers Finn and Jannah as they try and stop the First Order from kidnapping more children for their stormtrooper program.

The young adult Star Wars novel is being published by Penguin Random House and is being written by the author Kwame Mbalia. Kwame Mbalia has also written the Tristan Strong series, A Hero Looks Like You, and Last Gate of the Emperor, among others.

I'm pretty excited about Star Wars: The Last Order, and I'm really looking forward to reading it. Getting more backstory for Finn, who many, including myself, thought was underused, will be cool. Getting more backstory for Jannah, who was introduced in The Rise of Skywalker, will also be nice. It's always nice to see side characters like Jannah become more fleshed out and take part in more stories.

While the book doesn't sound like it'll be set too far past The Rise of Skywalker, it'll be cool to see how the galaxy is faring after the First Order's massive defeat at Exegol. Plus, with it being released near the end of October, that'll be a perfect excuse to stay inside, get cozy, and curl up with a good book.
