The Acolyte: We could have had more of Darth Plagueis in future seasons

We could see more of Plagueis if The Acolyte ever does come back.

Even though The Acolyte may not be returning for another season, some involved with the project have hinted that more seasons were definitely planned. According to Manny Jacinto, audiences could have even been introduced to more of Darth Plagueis's story in future seasons.

During a recent San Francisco FanExpo panel via Collider, Jacinto -- who played Qimir/The Stranger in the series' first season, suggested that if more seasons were to be made, Plagueis could have played a larger role in the story rather than making a quick cameo appearance.

"There was definitely going to be more of Plagueis in the second, or if not, the third seasons of the show," he said, "but I just can't say, because, you know, we could come back."

The character briefly appeared in one of the first season's later episodes, which immediately sparked fans' interest in seeing him on screen in a greater capacity in the future. First briefly mentioned in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Plagueis's backstory was further explored in a James Luceno novel. The book isn't technically canon anymore, but it wouldn't be out of character for Leslye Headland to adapt some of his origins for the small screen.

Whether or not we could see Plagueis again in The Acolyte is still up in the air. No official source from Lucasfilm or Disney has actually confirmed the show's cancellation. Many Star Wars fans are speculating that there will be a surprise Season 2 announcement at Star Wars Celebration Japan in April 2025.

The question of whether or not Plagues should return is another debate entirely. Focusing the show on new characters was one of the elements that made it special. Star Wars is at its best when it's innovating rather than leaning too heavily on previously established characters.

But there are a lot of Plagueis fans out there. If it makes them happy, that's fine too.
