Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 debuts later this year, but some lucky fans in France got a chance to see one of the shorts from the upcoming third season.

Via Slashfilm, the Volume 3 short "Black" premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and tackled a unique story for the Star Wars franchise. With the soundtrack compared to the jazz music of Cowboy Bebop, "Black" follows the point of view of an Imperial Stormtrooper, flashing back and forth in a psychedelic wave of visual storytelling. It dives into the man's PTSD from being in a war.

According to Slashfilm, the viewer never quite knows if they're seeing the past or present, saying, "Even if, by the time credits roll, you aren't exactly certain what you just watched, it's hard to forget its impact." A sneak peek of "Black" was revealed at Star Wars Celebration Japan back in April.

David Production is the studio for "Black," and the director for the short is One Piece and Studio Ghibli legend Shinya Ohira. The Annecy Film Festival website described "Black" as "A psychedelic battle between the past and the present, light and darkness, life and death, rages in the tormented psyche of an imperial soldier close to defeat."

I was already excited for Visions Volume 3 as Star Wars: Visions is my favorite show that has come out of the Disney era. What I think makes "Black" even more intriguing is watching it in a post-Andor world. We only have what Slashfilm reported on the short, but it sounds like a fascinating take that both humanizes a fascist while showing the monster behind the mask, too. Andor did this as well, but in a more real-world take. Having a high concept art piece coming from one of the best animators in the world with a Cowboy Bebop-esque soundtrack?

Sign me the heck up for it.

Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 arrives on Disney+ on October 29. You can see the trailer that debuted at Star Wars Celebration below.
