The Mandalorian and Grogu has revealed another star coming to the big screen. It's been announced by Deadline that actor Jonny Coyne is reprising his role as an Imperial Warlord in the upcoming film.

Coyne first appeared in Star Wars in The Mandalorian Season 3 episode "Chapter 23: The Spies" as a member of the Imperial Shadow Council. There were many notable characters in the meeting including Giancarlo Esposito's Moff Gideon, Xander Berkeley's Gilad Pellaeon, and Brian Gleeson's Brendol Hux, the father of the sequel trilogy's Armitage Hux. While Coyne's character didn't have a name in the episode, it sets up an interesting premise and might hint at what's to come.

Season 3 ended with Din Djarin agreeing to work as an independent contractor for the New Republic, hunting down the Imperial remnants. With his bounty hunter past, it would be something he would be very good at. This could be where we see Coyne's warlord enter the picture.

While I don't think his character will be the big bad of the film, as that is reserved for Lars Mikkelsen's Grand Admiral Thrawn, I do think he could be used as a way to open the movie. Perhaps the warlord is facing off against our titular Mandalorian and his little apprentice in a harrowing space battle. The warlord might spout some bombastic threats about his power and strength, but quickly, it all falls apart as Din takes apart his ship in his N-1 Starfighter. This would be a great way to catch up with our protagonists to open the film and see what kind of work they have been up to.

This is just speculation. We're going to have to wait and see how big of a role that Jonny Coyne's Imperial Warlord will play in The Mandalorian and Grogu when it comes to theaters on May 22, 2026.
