January is trudging along when it comes to Star Wars comics. Only one book came out this week, and it's the ongoing comic book event that's been pretty fine. But we will break it down anyway, so let's get to it.
This Week in Star Wars Comics, we discuss The Battle of Jakku - Last Stand #3
For a comic book event about the Battle of Jakku, we're just getting to the titular battle after 10 issues. I think Alex Damon of Star Wars Explained really nailed it, saying this series is really trying to do too much. While I enjoy seeing favorites of mine like Jarek Yeager from Star Wars Resistance return to the franchise, the story feels too much for the pages given to him. Alex stated in his video that characters die, and he, the Star Wars know-it-all guy, has no clue who they are or why he should care. It's a great breakdown of The Battle of Jakku as a whole so far, and you can watch his recap below starting at the 14:30 mark of the video.
Getting into issue #3 of Last Stand, hey! We made it to Jakku! Insert party emoji here.
Following up an assassination attempt on Leia Organa and the return of Han Solo who has been away through a chunk of the story, all of our heroes turn their eyes on Jakku where the Imperial Remnants are making a stand. Also in the mix is the ex-Imperial Warlord Ubrik Adelhard is over the Empire, which has backstabbed him enough times. He's not going to join the Resistance. So, he has his forces there too because some men just like watching the world burn. Everyone (finally) converges to start the titular battle.
The Battle of Jakku — Last Stand #3 is wrtten by Alex Segura, illustrated by Leonard Kirk, and the cover artist is E.M. Gist.
Next week, the final issue of The Battle of Jakku comic book event wraps up. We'll bring you that and more next time on This Week in Star Wars Comics. See you in the splash pages!
