Chewbacca Arrested in Ukraine For Not Having ID

Chewbacca has been arrested in Ukraine, and no, it’s not for protesting the new Darth Vader statue. According to The Guardian, he was arrested and fined for the “administrative offence” of not possessing identification documents whilst driving a costumed Darth Vader to elections in Odessa.

According to The Guardian correspondent, Shaun Walker, the hapless Wookiee was fined the Ukrainian equivalent of $7.50.

The above statement from the Ukrainian police department’s Instagram reads (via The Guardian):

"“Nothing unusual here, just Chewbacca detained for being without documents while driving Darth Vader to the elections in Odessa. The Sith Lord has already claimed this was illegal as Chewbacca is his pet and general servant and thus does not require documents.”"

Either Chewbacca was recaptured and enslaved by the Empire, or he’s decided he likes being chauffeur to the Emperor’s right hand man. We can neither confirm nor deny either scenario, as the Wookiee himself has not released a statement on the incident.

Darth Vader has been on the Ukrainian ballot before, but this is the first time a Wookiee (or at least a costumed one) has been involved. The Vader of 2014 was a member of the Ukrainian Internet Party, which, so says The Guardian, “has become known for its theatrical public stunts.” Though he didn’t win, perhaps with Chewbacca’s support, he’ll finally get that parking spot for his ship he’s been wanting with a win in the 2015 elections.
