A GIF Breakdown of the Rogue One Trailer

Now that we’ve seen that Rogue One: A Star Wars story teaser trailer, and we’ve screen-cap broke it down, it’s time to take it a step further through the magic of GIFs, to catch those special moments that we may have missed, and hey, you get to show ’em off to your friends for later!

Disney and Lucasfilm surprised us all on Wednesday night, when they announced they would be dropping the very first teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on Good Morning America. Well, as per the usual, the internet prevailed, and Disney uploaded the trailer to its YouTube channel in the wee-hours of the morning, on Thursday. Here’s a reminder of that amazing teaser trailer, so sit back and enjoy the dark and gritty look, into Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One.

That trailer was pretty damned exciting, and it had it all. Explosions, dark stormtroopers, some type of blind master (non-Jedi) I’m assuming, and of course Super Star Destroyers and the Death Star. Old familiar faces like Mon Mothma and new faces like Ben Mendelsohn’s man in white — which I am hoping is some form of Grand Admiral Thrawn — and who is the hooded man kneeling before the Imperial Guard? He didn’t look like Darth Vader. And why would Palpatine kneel before his own guard? Oh the questions that need answering.

Let’s get started down the GIF path, shall we? Here we have Felicity Jones’ character Jyn Erso being walking in handcuffs into what appears to be a Rebel base, probably to meet Mon Mothma.

Here she is with the leader of the Rebellion herself, Mon Mothma, portrayed by Eunice Olumide, and Jonathan Aris as Senator Jebel as well as Diego Luna’s character. I’m beginning to think that Lucasfilm is repurposing that green lighting, as we saw it a lot in The Force Awakens…and that’s okay.

Here we have Jones’ character kicking some stormtrooper ass…because you know, she’s a rebel, yo.

I guess the higher-ups in the Rebellion decide to send Jyn Erso out on a mission, because she looks like she’s in a transport of some sort here in this shot.

Finally, we get the Star Destroyer, and the Death Star all in one beautiful shot. Anyone else got chills? Anyone else humming the Imperial March while watching this GIF?

More Jonathan Aris as Senator Jebel, giving Jyn Erso what I can only imagine is some pseudo and probably unwanted, fatherly advice.

Scramble the fighters! ‘Cause we got a need, a need for hyperspeed! I make no apologies for my terrible Star Wars puns and crossover movie jokes.

Meet the new menacing Grand Admiral. Now, I didn’t say his name was Grand Admiral Thrawn. He isn’t blue, and not Chiss. BUT COME ON! Ben Mendelsohn looks like a complete badass and I can’t wait to see who and what he is, in Rogue One.

Not sure what’s going on here, but rest assured there will be stormtroopers blowing things up with that tank, and that guy with the mask may be a sympathizer pointing out a rebel cell. TRAITOR!

Badass cyborg looking Forest Whitaker. I wonder what role he will play.

Oooooooh Shadow Stormtrooper. I like it.

Ruh-roh, our team of rag-tag rebels is in the Death Star? Or on the Star Destroyer? And, are they being pursued by a bunch of troopers no less? ZOINKS!

Here’s the part I’m not sure about. Is Donnie Yen a Jedi without a lightsaber? Or, is he just some zen badass? I must know more.

Explosions and rebels fighting the Empire.

Who is this, why is he or she bowing before a pillar of light, while the Royal Guard surround. We know the guard only surround Emperor Palpatine, but why would he be bowing? I have so many unanswered questions, right now.

More Whitacker, is better. I feel like I’m watching a kickass Halo movie, at this point…and I’m okay with that.

OOOOOOOOHHHHH YEEEAAAAAAH the proverbial money shot, y’all. Look at that badass action. If you had any doubts about the excitement of Rogue One, let this scene put those doubts to rest, my friends.

And finally, we have Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso in an Imperial officer’s uniform, in what appears to me to be Darth Vader’s resting chambers…but don’t quote me on that.

Oh boy, Gareth Edwards and Disney/Lucasfilm really brought the heat with their first offering of the very first teaser trailer of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. And by they way, can we get a petition started to go back to “Anthology” because it was cooler?
