Rogue One: A GIF Breakdown of the New Trailer Shown During the Olympics

The brand-spanking-new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer finally dropped tonight, during NBC’s coverage of the Olympics, and we have a special GIF breakdown of that trailer, of the very best scenes…

The second official trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story aired tonight on NBC, during the Olympics, and boy what a fun and exciting trailer it was. With all the new scenes and action, packed into such little time, its hard to tell which scene was our favorite.

That’s okay though, because using the magic of the GIF, we’ve gone through and chosen the very best scenes from the new Rogue One: A Star Wars trailer, so you can enjoy them over, and over, and over, and…well, you get the point.

Let’s get started, shall we? This first GIF appears to be of the planet Jedha, where the Empire is in control.

The Empire even has it’s big ships on the planet’s surface.

Next we have Jyn Erso talking to Saw Gerrera, a veteran of The Clone Wars.

This next shot has got to be the coolest angle of a Star Destroyer, in any Star Wars film.

Here’s Jyn and Captain Cassian Andor having a very serious discussion, I’m sure,

This is a nice shot of that cool new ship, the U-Wing, taking off.

Here’s Jyn and Andor walking through the streets of Jedha. As you can see, the Empire is in full control, and and rebel resistance is being squashed.

A night mission, flying through a storm, is never safe.

And when Baze Malbus is firing at you, you’d better run for cover.

Looks like that same ship that was flying at night, is now doing the same, during the day.

Oh look, the Imperial jackboots have a tank!

For a guy who supposedly isn’t a Jedi, Chirrut Imwe kicks butt like one.

Kaytoo decided not to kill Jyn…so there’s that.

The Death Star is causing an eclipse over Jedha.

Here’s Director Krennic being very dramatic in his white cape, and smoldering stare.

This December, watch the rebels in some really neat fight scenes!

The Empire will not take the rebellion lying down. Remember, they have tanks!

Kaytoo and Andor seem to be having a conversation with Bodhi Rook, in this next one.

The X-Wings are coming, the X-Wings are coming!

Baze Malbus is one heckuva shot. Do not get on this man’s bad side.

Jyn and Saw have another conversation.

Here we have a montage of things happening. Jyn and Andor about to jump into hyperspace, flying through  sandstorm, and someone crashing into an Imperial outpost.

I don’t think Jyn has a shot in heck of winning this fight.

Go team Rebels!

And finally, the shot we were all waiting for…was the back of Darth Vader’s head. But hey, I’ll take it.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story boasts an all-star cast, including:

  • Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso.
  • Diego Luna as Captain Cassian Andor.
  • Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook.
  • Ben Mendelsohn as Director Orson Krennic.
  • Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe.
  • Jiang Wen as Baze Malbus.
  • Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, a veteran of the Clone Wars.
  • Mads Mikkelsen as Galen Erso, Jyn’s father.
  • Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, a Rebel-owned Imperial enforcer droid.
  • Jonathan Aris as Senator Jebel.
  • Genevieve O’Reilly, reprising her role as Mon Mothma from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
  • James Earl Jones, reprising his role as the voice of Darth Vader for Rogue One.

The trailer may not have featured enough of Darth Vader, but it sure did deliver, in this writer’s opinion. And I’ve got to say, the shots of the Star Destroyers coming out of the shadows, as well as the X-Wings attacking from the night sky, really make me excited for this film.
