Star Wars Coming To Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition This Fall

Earlier today, the official Star Wars website announced the addition of Star Wars to Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition, the new version of the “hybrid toy/video game” releasing this fall.

Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition will feature the following:

  • Three Star Wars Play Sets, one set in the timeline of Episodes I-III, the second set during the original trilogy, Episodes IV-VI, and the third available this winter based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens
  • Additional Play Sets offering distinct gameplay and environments, including a Disney•Pixar Play Set based on the upcoming film Inside Out, and a Marvel Play Set featuring Hulkbuster Iron Man, Ultron, and other Marvel characters
  • A fully enhanced Toy Box with two new multiplayer Toy Box Expansion Games, Toy Box Speedway (kart racing) and Toy Box Takeover (action-adventure)
  • More figures of fan-favorite characters from across The Walt Disney Company, like Mickey and Minnie, Sam Flynn and Quorra from Tron: Legacy, Mulan and Olaf, among many others

The Star Wars play set focusing on the prequel trilogy era will be called Twilight of the Republic, and will feature characters like Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul, and Yoda. Players will be able to “use the Force” and fight lightsaber battles during gameplay. The original trilogy set will be called Rise Against the Empire, and will allow players to choose from characters like Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Darth Vader. Gameplay for this set includes flying X-Wings and the Millennium Falcon, as well as embarking on “land-based missions” on original trilogy planets.

You will also be able to play across the sets, meaning you will probably be able to chase Stormtrooper scouts on Endor as Ahsoka or fight alongside Yoda as Luke during the Clone Wars (there’s a time warp for you).

James Pitaro, president of Disney Interactive, is enthusiastic about the possibilities for Star Wars within Disney Infinity.

"“Disney Infinity is the only game where fans can play with Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars characters together in one experience. We worked closely with Lucasfilm to deliver an authentic Star Wars game experience, featuring some of the most iconic stories and characters from the past, present and future.”"

John Blackburn, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Infinity, spoke about the opportunity Disney Infinity offers to fans, as well as the new edition’s lower price tag.

"“Star Wars is a cross-generational franchise, and Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition creates an incredible opportunity for families and fans to relive their favorite Star Wars moments. With the addition of Star Wars, Inside Out, and new Disney and Marvel characters, Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition will be the most ambitious and diverse offering yet and also the most accessible, with a lower suggested retail price for this year’s Starter Pack.”"

According to StarWars.com, the Starter Pack will include the Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition figure base and video game, the Twilight of the Republic play set, Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker character figures, and a web code that unlocks content for your PC and mobile devices. Its price will be $64.99.

One of the best things about Disney’s purchase of Star Wars is how much new content we’re getting, and also how accessible that content is. Not only that, but a lot of what we’re getting is being directed towards kids, which is the audience Star Wars was made for in the first place. It’s great to see the franchise getting hyped for new generations of fans. I’m pretty certain that my nephew, who plays Disney Infinity on his XBOX 360, will love being able to play with Star Wars characters on one of his favorite games.

Stay tuned to Dork Side for release date information, which we will post as soon as it is announced!
