Star Wars Disney Infinity Game Play Video and Screenshots
By Elaine Tveit
FamilyGamerTV and Disney have provided us with a closer look at the Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic game play in Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition, coming this fall to the Playstation 3 and 4, Xbox One, and Wii U consoles.
In the following ten minute video, you’ll see what it’s like navigating your characters (choices in the Twilight of the Republic play set include Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Obi Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, and Darth Maul) through Geonosis, where the mission is to shut down a battle droid factory.
Each character has their own special set of Force abilities and moves, as well as their own fighting style. Anakin’s fighting style, for example, was purposely designed to be more aggressive; Ahsoka fights with two lightsabers, while Darth Maul has his signature double-bladed weapon; and Yoda has the same jumping ability that he has in the films and The Clone Wars, making it easier for you to dispatch enemies while playing as him.
Disney’s press release for the game gives you an idea of what kind of activities and missions you’ll be able to play in Twilight of the Republic:
"Set during the latter years of the Clone Wars, players will travel to four locations and explore open worlds of Tatooine and Coruscant, battle droids in Geonosis and partake in an epic boss battle in Naboo. Along the way, players will use the Force™ and master their Lightsaber™ skills as they fight alongside Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda to save the Republic and defeat the Separatists."
The “epic boss battle” is, I’m guessing, a face-off with Darth Maul in the core of Theed Palace, as seen in the screenshot below.
Here are some other screenshots from Geonosis and Tatooine (Ahsoka gets her own podracer!). I have to say, the variety of locations and activities makes this game look ridiculously fun.
I know that it’s likely that some people were concerned when they heard that Star Wars was becoming a playable part of one of Disney’s most Disney-fied kids’ games, but I don’t believe there’s any need for worry. Not only does this game look awesome, but it will introduce a whole new generation of kids to the franchise, which is something that older Star Wars fans, especially parents, can truly appreciate and encourage.
You can purchase the Twilight of the Republic Play Set this fall in a Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition starter pack ($64.99), which includes a base for your figures, figures of Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano, and a web code that will unlock content for your PC and mobile devices.
Rise Against the Empire (featuring original trilogy characters and locations) and The Force Awakens play sets will become available this holiday season.
