Star Wars Panels Announced for Comic-Con

With Marvel skipping San Diego’s Comic-Con this year, many fans believed that Disney was making room at the convention so Star Wars could steal the spotlight, building off the momentum it created at this year’s celebration.

More from Dork Side of the Force

Turns out, this was a pretty good guess. The official Star Wars site has announced details on several Star Wars panels to be featured at Comic-Con, including a “special look” at The Force Awakens.

The panels, all scheduled on July 10 (Comic-Con’s second day) will not only cover the new film. There will also be events featuring the authors of the recently announced trilogy of books recapping Episodes IV-VI from the characters’ perspectives, as well as special looks at Hasbro’s new line of toys and the upcoming Disney Infinity 3.0.

Take a look at the agenda below, with a brief synopsis of each panel:

  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Hall H: Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy, director J.J. Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan, and special guests provide a special look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
  • Star Wars Publishing 2015, Part 1: 10:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.; Room: 7AB: Join a dynamic, all-star, New York Times-bestselling panel of authors in conversation with Lucasfilm’s Mike Siglain about the new Star Wars retellings for a younger generation of fans.
  • Star Wars Publishing 2015, Part 2: 11:00 p.m. – 12:00 p.m.; Room: 7AB: Join a variety of authors as they talk about their upcoming projects from that galaxy far, far away.
  • Hasbro Star Wars, 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., Room: 7AB: Join members of the Hasbro and Lucasfilm teams as they discuss the popular Hasbro Star Wars line.
  • Star Wars Collectibles Update with Lucasfilm’s Anita Castellar, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Room: 7AB: Join eFX, Gentle Giant Studios, Kotobukiya, and Sideshow Collectibles for product development insights and exclusive previews of the latest in Star Wars collectibles.
  • ILM 40th Anniversary, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Room: 7AB: The presenters will discuss the company’s work from its earliest days and breakthroughs along the way.
  • Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition at San Diego Comic Con 2015: For the first time, Star Wars joins forces with characters from across The Walt Disney Company in Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition – the next chapter in the best-selling hybrid toy/video game series.

Obviously, the most intriguing item on this list is the panel on The Force Awakens, which will be the first to feature writer Lawrence Kasdan, who also co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back. Could this be the premiere of a third trailer, or perhaps even a full scene from the movie?

I’m also very interested in the Disney Infinity event, which apparently includes a “mediated reality experience” where guests can step into a Toy Box from the game brought to life featuring Star Wars characters. It sounds a lot like the Secret Cinema experience in the United Kingdom.

Anyway, it appears a galaxy far, far away is coming to Southern California sooner than we thought.
