Star Wars: The Force Awakens — BB-8 Commercial for Force Friday

As part of the huge Star Wars marketing campaign set to officially kick-off at midnight tomorrow night (Friday, September 4) for Force Friday, a brand new commercial for Sphero’s app-enabled BB-8 droid toy debuted on YouTube. As you may well know, BB-8 is the new droid in Star Wars: The force Awakens, and has already captured the hearts of Star Wars fans everywhere for his adorable personality…much like his predecessor — R2-D2.

Thanks to Screen Crush’s YouTube page, we get to see this BB-8 toy in all his fantastic glory. I can’t remember a Star Wars toy that I have ever been more excited about, than this Sphero app-enabled BB-8.

Here’s what you get with Sphero’s BB-8:

  • AUTHENTIC MOVEMENT. GUIDE YOUR BB-8 WITH A SMARTPHONE OR TABLET.

This is the core of what makes Sphero’s BB-8 so unique. The ability to use your smartphone or tablet to control the toy, makes it all the more interesting to next-gen collectors. Also, the authentic movement — if the above video is any indication — makes your BB-8 seem like the real deal from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

ADAPTIVE PERSONALITY. YOUR BB-8’s UNIQUE ATTITUDE AND ACTIONS EVOLVE AS YOU INTERACT.

This might be the most exciting feature to BB-8. The ability to mold the toy to your personality, takes the personal experience to an all new level.

AUTONOMOUS BEHAVIOR. BB-8 HAS A MIND OF HIS OWN – EXPLORE THE GALAXY TOGETHER.

The fact that BB-8 will do random things, acting on its own, is beyond exciting.

HOLOGRAPHIC COMMUNICATION. RECORD, SEND AND VIEW VIRTUAL HOLOGRAPHIC VIDEOS WITH BB-8.

One of the coolest things R2-D2 did in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, was holo-projecting that now famous message to Obi-Wan Kenobi, “Help me Obi-Wan, you’re my only hope.” The fact that we will get to own a Star Wars droid that will do the same thing, is over-the-top exciting.

LISTENS AND RESPONDS. BB-8 RECOGNIZES AND REACTS TO YOUR VOICE

Again, this goes to BB-8 becoming your personal droid. The uniqueness of owning a toy that has all of these interactive features, is something that the toy industry itself has rarely seen. With BB-8, Sphero is taking that next step into the world of interactive toys, and after Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuts on December 18, every person — man, woman, or child — is going to want to own their own. BB-8 is said to run around $149.
