We are 70 paltry days from the worldwide theatrical release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and today, we’ve got some exciting news via The Hollywood Reporter. According to the online magazine, Disney/Lucasfilm will debut Star Wars: The Force Awakens at its world premiere in Los Angeles on Dec. 14, which is four full days from the official public release date. Then from LA, Abrams and company will jet to London, which will then be preceded by other events around the globe.
THR notes that the animated The Clone Wars film did have a premiere in LA, but the last live-action film premiere in LA was Revenge of the Sith.
"“The last Star Wars movie to have an LA premiere was Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, which debuted May 12, 2005 in Westwood at the Mann Village Theatre. It was a one of a series of premieres around the world that benefited charities, in that case Artists for a New South Africa.”"
As far as which of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars will be attending the red carpet, THR doesn’t have confirmation on this, but notes that the film boasts quite the large cast, including:
- Harrison Ford — Han Solo
- Carrie Fisher — Leia
- Mark Hamill — Luke Skywalker
- Anthony Daniels — C3P0
- Peter Mayhew — Chewbacca
- John Boyega — Finn
- Daisy Ridley — Rey
- Oscar Isaac — Poe Dameron
- Domhnall Gleeson — General Hux
- Adam Driver — Kylo Ren
- Gwendoline Christie — Captain Phasma
- Max von Sydow — Name unconfirmed
- Lupita Nyong’o — Maz Kanata in a motion capture role
- Andy Serkis — Supreme Leader Snoke in a motion capture role
So as you can see, the list is quite extensive, and does not include the prequel films stars like Hayden Christensen, Ewan Mcgregor and others who would most likely be on hand to support the saga’s next chapter. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to hit theaters on December 18.
