Rumor: Michael B. Jordan Eyed For Rumored Boba Fett Spinoff

Rumors are not uncommon, by any means. But a rumor about a rumor is a little ridiculous. Nevertheless, we have one.

According to Jeff Sneider from Meet the Movie Press podcast (via Latino-Review), rumors are going around that Lucasfilm is looking for a black actor to portray Boba Fett in the bounty hunter’s rumored spinoff movie. And Michael B. Jordan (Fantastic Four) may be on the list.

Given that Josh Trank, who was supposed to direct the spinoff film following Rogue One, and whose departure from the project resulted in the film’s delay, was the director of Fantastic Four, it seems logical that an actor from the latter would be associated with the Star Wars spinoff he was slated to helm. Some directors and actors like to continue to work together on multiple projects, like J.J. Abrams and Greg Grunberg.

However, there is a potential problem with this rumor. Neither Temuera Morrison nor Daniel Logan, who played Jango Fett and Boba in Attack of the Clones, respectively, are black.  If it’s true, if Lucasfilm is indeed searching for a black actor to take up the younger Fett’s mantle, then we can expect only one outcome: Boba Fett in the spinoff film will not be the original Boba Fett. This also means that the spinoff film, if that rumor is also true (many entertainment sites have heard about it, so it seems all but confirmed by now that a Boba Fett movie is happening), will take place following the events of Return of the Jedi.

More from Star Wars Characters

It’s interesting to note that in Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath, in one of the interludes between chapters, a suit of Mandalorian armor is discovered and purchased from some Tatooine Jawas by someone who intends to wear it. While it’s hard to imagine Boba Fett’s armor being discharged from the sarlacc without him, but it is possible someone (perhaps the Jawas) picked the armor off him after he made it out. That means the real Boba is either dead or, when he comes to and finds his armor gone, he’s going to be very, very angry.

As always, we await official confirmation from Disney and Lucasfilm for all rumors.
