New Info points to October 16 or 19 as The Force Awakens Trailer Date
It’s been a very busy week on the Star Wars message boards, rumor sites, and leak sites. For the better part of a month, most of these sites have been claiming that the final Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer — which will be the full length theatrical trailer, by the way — will air on either October 16 or 19. We’ve seen some fairly credible sources such as Star Wars News Net claiming that the trailer would in fact hit on Monday, October 19.
Well, adding to the list of credible sources, Making Star Wars founder, Jason Ward, has gone on record, via his website, and has announced that he is confident that the final Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer will in fact air on Monday, october 19.
"“It is indeed true that Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer will be released on Monday the 19th. The announcement should come about twelve hours or so before the airing (these things tend to fluctuate). We believe the trailer will appear with a football game that evening, but that bit is only semi-confirmed but most likely dead on. I wish I had better sources on the sports scene but it isn’t my thing. We assume the trailer will be posted online moments after it is on television.”"
The game in question will be between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s also extremely important to remember here, that Disney owns ESPN, which will be airing the game.
With the game starting at 7:30 pm CST, there is plenty of time for kids of all ages to get to see the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer. However, I suspect that it will be released online earlier in the day, if not three days earlier on Friday, October 16. While taking full advantage of Monday Night Football is a genius move on Disney’s part, they could still show television spots all through the game during commercials, while having taken full opportunity of the weekend traffic that releasing the trailer on Friday, would offer.
MSW does go on to say that there will be a new Star Wars: The Force Awakens logo released with the final trailer, and that the one we’ve seen since the first part of this year is basically a placeholder and generic. While I do tend to trust Jason Ward and his site — MSW — I am not sold completely on the idea that a Monday night release of the final TFA trailer is what Disney/Lucasfilm would want to go for, as I feel there are too many logistical problems involved with reaching the desired audience.
If I were a betting man — which I am not — I would say to keep you eyes peeled for a trailer announcement and release this coming Friday, October 16, and if not, then early Monday. Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18.
