Gwendoline Christie is about to become a household name to Star Wars fans, once Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters in eight days. To Game of Thrones fans, she is already in that household name status, as the warrior maid, Brienne of Tarth. Gwendoline sat down with Mario Lopez of Extra, to discuss her role as Captain Phasma, and the wonderful problem of being in the middle of filming a Star Wars film, and Game of Thrones, at the same time.
Gwendoline mentions that a major plot point in The Force Awakens is if she removes her helmet in the film…and then she quickly corrects herself and says “potential plot point.” I wonder what she will look like under that chrome helmet. If it is indeed a plot point, then perhaps she is more than just a human under all that armor. Perhaps she is someone we might recognize, or possibly genetically enhanced…like a cyborg, kind of like Darth Vader.
I also really love the fact that Gwendoline acknowledges the fact that filming Game of Thrones and Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the same time is a wonderful problem to have. She mentions walking onto the set of The Force Awakens for the first time, in her Phasma armor, and saying “Is this really happening?” And, when asked to describe Phasma in one word, Christie goes with “Badass.”
