Harrison Ford Says He’s Not Involved With Han Solo Standalone
By Elaine Tveit
Harrison Ford told Reuters he is not involved with the upcoming Han Solo standalone.
In an interview with Reuters, Ford made it clear he’s not going to be involved with Phillip Lord and Christopher Miller’s film in any way.
"“…I’m sure whoever is responsible for that film, and I’m not, will think through the issues and problems of doing such a thing … Let’s make them responsible for those questions you might think to ask me because I’m not involved.”"
Ford doesn’t have any thoughts about who should be cast. Nor does he plan on giving the next Han Solo any advice.
"“I don’t think it’s about being like me, it’s about us being like Han Solo.”Asked if he would provide any tips on how to be Han Solo in the spin-off, Ford, 73, said: “No, I’m not going to do that.”"

I agree with Harrison’s hands-off stance. When a character is being reincarnated through a younger actor, the performance will feel most right and legitimate when the actor or actress is not trying to merely repeat what’s gone before.
Ewan McGregor filling Alec Guiness’s shoes as Obi Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy is a good example of this. Ewan didn’t try to be old Ben, rather he took inspiration from Guiness’s performance and then adopted his own persona for the young Jedi. A young Han Solo will have to do the same, lest he be called out for just trying to look like Harrison.
Also in the Reuters interview, Ford expressed how “pleased” he was with the way The Force Awakens has turned out.
"“I’m pleased to see the skill with which the story has been rendered,” Ford said. “I think it all came together very well.”"
He’s not really worried about the response the film will receive, with the premiere happening in LA on December 14th.
"“I don’t worry about it now because it’s just going to be whatever it is.”"
