When can I rent Star Wars The Force Awakens?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a box office hit after the newest installment in the iconic movie franchise premiered on the night of December 17. The movie lived up to the prodigious hype and acclaim from the perspective of the fan and from the critics alike and by the time you’re reading this, many have already seen the movie multiple times.

If you saw the movie in the theater and want to see it a second time but don’t want to pay the high prices for a ticket or you didn’t make the trip to the theater because you prefer watching movies in your loaded home theater and are waiting for the movie to be available for rent, you better be patient.
The average turnaround time for a movie to be available for rent on DVD and Blu-ray is three-six months from its theatrical release, but The Force Awakens figures to stick in the theaters longer than the average movie due to its overwhelming popularity.
Therefore, the timeline for you to be able to rent it will be closer to the six-month timeline than the three-month wait.

We are projecting an early April release to DVD as the earliest possible date for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to be available for rent and no later than mid-late May.
There could also be options for you to rent it through your cable provider and stream it, and in some instances you can get it earlier than Redbox or other places that will have the movie for rent, but in those instances it will only be by a week or two earlier, so it’s not a massive time difference.
