Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to destroy every box office record it comes up against, by crushing the itsy-bitsy Spider-Man…

More from Dork Side of the Force

Another day, another record demolished. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 is the latest victim of Disney’s juggernaut. The Spider-Man sequel enjoyed an eleven and a half year record for the most money made on a Monday at the box office, with nearly $28 million. The Force Awakens basically Force choked Spidey, with a total landing around $40 million.

According to ComicBook.com, with that number, Disney/Lucasfilm’s cash-rathtar became the fastest film to $250 million, and puts it on the edge of $300 million, which The Force Awakens should hit with relative ease on Tuesday (Today, December, 22). At $40 million, The Force Awakens outgained early speculation, by $10 million, and with kids out of school for the holidays, and with many adults have Christmas break, the record shattering should only continue.

Nearly six-months ago, Bob Iger and Disney tried to caution expectations for investors for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, citing the Prequel Trilogy as an example of Star Wars fatigue. I think it’s safe to say now, that there is no more worrying about expectations, as they all seem to be more than met…in fact, one could use the term “Above and Beyond.”

So now, Disney can add best Monday ever to the growing list of accolades for The Force Awakens, which includes:

  • Biggest Thursday preview gross with $57M.
  • Biggest Friday and biggest single-day gross with $120.5M.
  • First film ever to post a single day over $100M.
  • Fastest film to $100M and $200M.
  • Biggest December debut (nearly 3 times previous record of $84.6M).
  • Biggest IMAX Thursday night preview ($5.7M), single-day ($14M, Friday), and weekend ($30.1M).
  • Highest theater average for a wide release ($57,568).
  • Biggest IMAX global debut of $48M.
