Harrison Ford stands to make quite a hefty sum for reprising his role as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens…

More from Dork Side of the Force

Fortune is reporting that actor Harrison Ford is getting an upfront salary of $25 million for portraying the now late-lamented Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. According to the online magazine (covering a report from the Guardian), that upfront of $25 mil. could grow up to $34 million because Ford has a small share of the film’s gross earnings. If the numbers line-up, Harrison Ford will get paid an estimated 56 times the amount that Daisy Ridley and John Boyega received which was a $450,000 flat fee.

That’s no big surprise, really. Ford is a legend reprising one of the most popular characters in cinematic history. What is shocking, however, is how little his co-star Carrie Fisher is making compared to him. According to Fortune, General Leia is making $1.5 million…something’s not right. This raises all sorts of questions regarding the much discussed gender gap in Hollywood, as one could argue that Leia is just as important to the Star Wars franchise as Han is.

Still though, Ford did spend a great deal more amount of time in front of the camera for The Force Awakens, with Fisher really only making small appearances when the Resistance base was the focus. And, this film was most likely Ford’s Star Wars swan-song, with Han dying on the lightsaber blade of his own son. Now, he may come back in a flashback capacity in Episode VIII, but that certainly remains to be seen, and his screen-time would be greatly reduced.

There’s also the fact that Ford is a more established, working actor that Fisher. Their career paths have certainly taken separate and vastly differing roads. Ford is the epitome of the A-list Hollywood actor, while sadly, Fisher took a step back from the spotlight, after Star Wars. Still though, that is an astronomical difference in pay…and it definitely feels as if the aforementioned gender gap in Hollywood, is still there, and just as wide as it’s always been.

We want to hear from you. How do you feel about the difference between Ford and Fisher’s payouts for The Force Awakens? Let us know in the comments and on social media.
